WG2 Workshop, 21-22 April 2022: Norms of public argumentation: select theoretical perspectives and applications

Centro Servizi di Ateneo Santa Chiara Lab, Università di Siena, Via Valdimontone 1 – 53100 Siena, Italy

The workshop focuses on select theoretical perspectives and application cases for norms for public argumentation. Presenters are selected from the recent call for papers (now closed) for WG-2’s forthcoming special issue (working title: Norms of public argumentation) with Argumentation, to be published in late 2022/early 2023. The meeting’s main purpose is to critically comment on the authors’ papers, and to identify cross-connections between them, thus increasing the coherence of the special issue. Presenters are joined by local participants from around Sienna and, budget permitting, by select members of all three of the action’s working groups, who serve as discussants, as well as by a key note speaker (to be announced) who addresses the topic of this workshop.

COST Action CA17132

Providing and criticising reasons is indispensable to achieve sound public policy that commands the support of both citizens and stakeholders. This need is now widely acknowledged in the recent literature and key EU documents, which highlight the perils of populist discourse and policies.
