Training School: Argument Mining and Argumentation-based Explainable AI
Lordos Beach Hotel, Larnaca, Cyprus | February 22 nd – 24 th 2023
This Training School consists of two parts. First part is dedicated to the topic of Argumentation Mining with a purpose is to introduce the field of argumentation mining to the participants, to explore connections between human reasoning, computational linguistics and argumentation theory. During the Training school participants will be introduced to theoretical grounds of computational argumentation but also participate in practical training with Machine Learning systems.
The second part of the Training School will be dedicated to the “know-how” workshop which will help young researchers in successful carrier development. The workshop will represent a closure of Training Schools series organized by APPLY project and will include topics important for academic carrier of young scholars such as successful publishing of the papers, representing and communicating expertise via media and writting scientific projects.

Croatia APPLY Winter School 2020: Methods of argument analysis and evaluation in public contexts
The Croatia APPLY Winter School 2020: Methods of Argument Analysis and Evaluation in Public Contexts was organized in Croatia, at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb on 15 -18 January 2020.
During the Training School 40 participants from Italy, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, Serbia, Croatia, Albania, Malta, Netherlands, UK, Turkey, Denmark but also USA and Canada, learned about different methods of analyzing and evaluating arguments. The trainers: Jean Wagemans, Sara Greco, Marcin Lewiński and Mark Aakhus

ECA Training school in Leiden
The COST-ECA Summer School on Argumentation was held in Leiden from 20th to 22nd June 2019 and it was organized by COST APPLY action together with European Conference on Argumentation. Participants were mostly PhD students from European countries who’s professional interests are closely connected with argumentation studies.
Participants had an opportunity to work with four trainers: Catarina Dutilh Novaes from the Free University of Amsterdam in Netherlands, Dale Hample from the University of Maryland in the USA, Steve Oswald from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland and Henrike Jansen, organiser of the Summer School from the Leiden University in Netherlands.

Argument Mapping Workshop
Training School on Argument Mapping took place at Nova University in Lisbon from March 15th until March 18th 2019 and it immediately preceded Networks kick off conference. It was organised as a mix of lecturing, group discussion, exercises, and self-study, with the intent to improve participant’s ability to analyse, evaluate, and produce natural language arguments, assisted by the online argument-mapping tool Rationale.
Trainer was Dr. phil. habil. Frank Zenker and 26 participants were PhD students, early carrier researches, educators and stakeholders’ representatives from COST countries.
